Korho 1 The term ‘‘radial” in the traditional DEA-literature reach the efficient frontier by proportionally increasi outputs or decreasing the values of the current inputs We develop an approach to efficiency analysis to enable us to incorporate interval-scale data in addition to ratio-scale data. Our approach introduces a measure of inefficiency and identifies efficient units as is done in Data Envelopment Analysis. The basic idea in our approach is to find the ‘‘best” hyperplane separating the units that are better and worse than each unit. ‘‘Best” is defined in such a way that the number of not-better units is maximal. The efficiency measure is defined as a proportion of not-better units to all units. The results are invariant under a strictly increasing linear re-scaling of any inputor output-variables. Thus zeroes or negative values do not cause problems for the analysis. The approach is used to analyze the data of the research evaluation exercise recently carried out at the University of Joensuu, Finland. 2010 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved.

EFFICIENCY MEASUREMENT OF NDEA WITH INTERVAL DATA

Data envelopment analysis (DEA) is a non-parametric technique for evaluation of relative efficiency of decision making units described by multiple inputs and outputs. It is based on solving linear programming problems. Since 1978 when basic DEA model was introduced many its modifications were formulated. Among them are two or multi-stage models with serial or parallel structure often called net...

DEA Models with Interval Scale Inputs and Outputs

This paper proposes an alternative approach for efficiency analysis when a set of DMUs uses interval scale variables in the productive process. To test the influence of these variables, we present a general approach of deriving DEA models to deal with the variables. We investigate a number of performance measures with unrestricted-in-sign interval and/or interval scale variables.

Estimating Most Productive Scale Size of the provinces of Iran in the Employment sector using Interval data in Imprecise Data Envelopment Analysis(IDEA)

Unemployment is one of the most important economic problems in Iran, so that many of its managers plan to increase employment rates. Increasing the employment rate needs to increase economic productivity which DEA is one of the most appropriate evaluation methods for estimating the productivity of similar organizations. Employment in the amount of data input and output can be just interval. In ...

Efficiency Analysis Based on Separating Hyperplanes for Improving Discrimination among DMUs

Data envelopment analysis (DEA) is a non-parametric method for evaluating the relative technical efficiency for each member of a set of peer decision making units (DMUs) with multiple inputs and multiple outputs. The original DEA models use positive input and output variables that are measured on a ratio scale, but these models do not apply to the variables in which interval scale data can appe...

The Efficiency of MSBM Model with Imprecise Data (Interval)

Data Envelopment Analysis (DEA) is a mathematical programming-based approach for evaluates the relative efficiency of a set of DMUs (Decision Making Units). The relative efficiency of a DMU is the result of comparing the inputs and outputs of the DMU and those of other DMUs in the PPS (Production Possibility Set). Also, in Data Envelopment Analysis various models have been developed in order to...
